I've never had it run out of power (although when I'm drilling through more than 6 inches of wood I will reduce my bit down to 3/4 inch. This is a big plus because often the drill is only a couple feet from your ears.
Today I'm buying a second one for another employee I've been so pleased. I know I could wear hearing protection but it's easier to just buy a quiet drill.
I have owned this drill for about 3 years. What I like most is that it's light (which means a lot when you are carrying it up and down a ladder all day, and that it's quiet.
I am an electrician and use the drill almost daily.
The plastic collar of the side handle has broken a little after getting dropped on a wood subfloor in 30 degree weather, but I think that's almost to be expected.
The problem here may be that the Makita case is just so flimsy, and it is the worst case I have ever seen, that it cannot be relied upon for any type of protection in transit. I do not believe based on an inspection of the packaging that UPS mishandled the box in transit. No problems with that unit and I should have known better and just ordered the Milwaukee in the first place. I called Makita and they said the oil in the case is not normal and I should return it, which I did.
I ordered and received this item twice in a defective condition. Here's the problem with Amazon and other internet retailers: they do not pack well and rely on the product's original packaging for protection. I was fooled by the slightly higher rpm on the Makita which is wholly unnesseary and may be even detrimental for the large holes I purchased this machine to bore. Each time the drill arrived with a very noticeable amount of light oil in the case.
After the second arrived with the leak I gave up and ordered the Milwaukee 3107-6. The Milwaukee's case is solid, the Makita's is not and this creates a problem when you are getting almost no padding in your shipment. The case was also deformed each time. In other words, it was only subject to the normal amount of abuse and not crushed up.
Only bad thing I have to say about it is the crappy case they give you. So far I have to say it's an excellent drill and would recommend it to any one.
